"Christmas Time"

Sharing a Christmas Moment

This poem was written by a ratlist friend who graciously gave consent to let me place it here for you to enjoy.

The Most Lowly and Meek

A meek little mouse and a lowly rat
Looked at each other and said, "What was that?"
For above them a star shined its light all around,
And with it was singing - a heavenly sound!

Then the delighted mouse and the curious rat
Followed the star to where it now sat -
Over a stable with oxen and sheep, so
They entered in - the lowly rat and the little
mouse meek.

There was a man and a woman, and joy all around,
And a wee tiny baby, not making a sound!
To the babe approached the mouse and the rat,
And in front of the manger they stopped and they sat.

The babe looked at them with a gentle love,
And they knew that meant blessings from God above.
With quiet adoration the animals stood near,
And watched the man, woman, and baby so dear.

What could they do, for the baby to please?
So the rat brought the baby his last piece of cheese.
And the meek little mouse, wanting to gift the newborn,
Ended up giving the baby her last piece of corn.

The babe saw their gifts, so humble and small,
And saw them peeking from under the hay in the stall.
He smiled at them, then, and they felt so much joy,
And the Christmas light shown down on the dear tiny boy.

No gift is too small, when it's given with love,
And no animal is unwanted by God up above.
Let us go to the manger for the love we all seek,
And adore the dear babe like the most lowly and meek.
